World Mitochondrial Disease Week 2023

Every September sees the mitochondrial community come together during World Mitochondrial Disease Week to raise awareness of the condition through educational, fundraising and advocacy activities. This year was no exception and we were delighted that E-Mit was able to take part in the remarkable global effort for the first time. This included joining a Social Media Takeover led by Dr Lyndsey Butterworth, E-Mit Board Member and Engagement & Communication Lead for the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research (WCMR) at Newcastle University”.
The initiative saw 22 organizations from across the world, including the UK, Europe, Australia, USA and Canada, take over the @MitoResearch social media account to share key messages on a global scale. This was a huge success, with 214 posts receiving >50,000 views over 2 days! In terms of our E-Mit takeover led by Dr Marco Tigano, we were thrilled that the posts shared over our allocated hour reached nearly 7,000 people, clearly demonstrating that we are stronger together. E-Mit was delighted to be part of this fantastic initiative and would like to thank the WCMR for the opportunity to join the global community and raise the profile of mitochondrial disease together.
